Why do we keep going back to Disney?
Why we've gone over 20 times in the past two years, and why we continue to go back.
Where our adventure began…
I wasn't always the big Disney fan I am now. In fact, I’d say that I’ve become an even bigger fan as an adult than I was as a child. My Disney journey began in March 2021, when my husband, a full-grown adult, decided he wanted to go to Disney World for his birthday. At first, I made fun of him for it, but he then explained to me the sentimental value that Disney holds for him. My husband and his family had to flee their home country when he was just 9 years old and settled down in Florida, where he spent the rest of his childhood. Almost every year for his birthday, no matter what was happening financially or otherwise, his family would go to Disney World, even if they couldn’t afford it. From the perspective of a 9 year old, everything seemed magical when he was there and nothing else mattered.
Our Disney trip in March 2021 was the first time we went anywhere since the Covid pandemic had started. On top of the pandemic, my husband had been laid off the year before, so we didn’t have the flexibility to go anywhere even if we wanted to. By March, however, he had a good and steady job, and we had moved out of my parents’ guestroom and my in-laws’ guestroom and into a townhome. Even though Covid was still very much present, we decided it was time to leave our bubble. Our trip allowed us to escape what was happening in the world and feel some magic again. It gave us a sense of normalcy and comfort to believe life would go back to the way it was pre-pandemic. Seeing our daughter enjoy it so much was the cherry on top, especially since she was a Covid baby who grew up spending most of her time in a living room. So after that first trip in March, we ended up going back again in two months, and a month after that. It’s because the magic is still there with every trip we take, it doesn’t run out. And although we obviously must all face real life, it’s nice to take a break from it once in a while.
Making it possible
With our family growing and inflation rising, we’ve learned how to save money on our trips in order to make visiting Disney possible. We’ve also learned some helpful tips for traveling with babies and toddlers. I want to share what I’ve learned in hopes that it will help other families make their trip more magical and less stressful. I’ll be covering subjects such as what to pack, how to save at the park, and some helpful advice for traveling with babies and toddlers.
